This Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts Artist in Residence proposal entails the creation of a photographic collection that depicts a cross-section of Crucian residents and their culture.

The conceptual idea is to pair photographs consisting of:

1) A portrait of a person in front of a clear, white background using natural light, resulting in a focus on the individual’s distinctive style, facial expression and body language which are all informed by cultural identity.
2) A complementary photograph depicting the person’ home, work or social environment.

There is a potential for this conceptual idea to be supplemented with additional photographs to create a classical photo reportage of St. Croix (social documentary style).

Identifying and photographing subjects and locations would be an integral and primary part of my Artist in Residence stay. In addition, I would be committed to sharing my skills and vision in a classroom or individual setting to the extent time allows (anticipated maximum of one classroom setting), and I would be willing to provide a limited number of my photographs ready and suitable for exhibit at the Museum Center.

The photographs below illustrate examples of picture language consistent with the stated concept above: ( The pictures below are a mixture of my own work and picture examples from other photographers)
