Emelí Vando
Emelí Vando was born in Ponce on May 29,1949. She lived in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 1952 until her death in 2013. Emelí graduated from the School of Plastic Arts of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture in 1974. Her teachers were the masters of the ‘golden age’ of the Puerto Rican plastic: Augusto Marín, Fran Cervoni, Lorenzo Homar and Hernández Cruz, among others. Emelí Vando belonged to the following organizations for artists: “Arte en la Plaza of Old San Juan, “Arte Pa' Pueblo”, “Complices en el Arte”, artists of MAVI and "Very Special Arts". Her works are exhibited in notable art galleries, squares and renowned hotels such as the Radisson Ambassador, Intercontinental Hotel and Gran Melía Hotel and exclusively at Labiosa Gallery in Old San Juan. Among her Awards, she has been recognized by the Association of Art Teachers in Puerto Rico, Distinguished Lady of San Juan 2002, and recognition of the Senate of Puerto Rico 2008 and 2009
