PRIDE THRU ART

Pride Through Art, is the first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) exhibit at the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts. The art exhibit proudly displays work by members of the LGBTQ community and their allies. In addition, at the opening reception for the art exhibit, musical and spoken word offerings will be included. The event on September 21, 2017, is part of the celebration organized by St. Croix Pride, Inc. Other events scheduled between September 16, and September 26 are described at www.STXPride.org and on Facebook.com/stxpride.

LGBT artists have historically not been identified as an entity within the mainstream art world. This outsider or closeted position has given them a unique perspective to comment on a range of themes and issues pertaining to gender identity and society, in their art. Our journeys are all different and we come from all walks of life, thus, race, color, ethnicity, languages, and other usual dividing factors are not barriers for us. We cross lines that others wouldn’t dare to cross.  We see beauty from the inside out.

In the St. Croix community LGBTQ artists have many friends who support their efforts and have made this exhibit possible. Enriching the experience and exhibit is the work of allies who model acceptance and celebrate the diversity found on St. Croix, which includes the LGBTQ community. This exhibit is designed to showcase all our talents in an open forum, Pride Through Art.
