Crucian Confusion
14" x 17" Original Framed Acrylic by Victoria Nelson
From childhood days of building model airplanes and experimenting with a chemistry set, to my corporate career which frequently involved starting new projects and organizations, creating has been a critical part of my life.
My first artistic efforts were self-taught in my teen years and featured watercolor flowers. There was some formal instruction in undergraduate studies at Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY. Artistic efforts went dormant as I pursued a rewarding corporate career in a wide-range of industries focused on technology and management. On a lark, in 2010 I began evening art classes. The corporate life was starting to not be fun, and one evening while painting I realized it was time to reboot, refresh and spend more time creating. Art led me to break the corporate chains with no regrets….well I do miss access to private aircraft sometimes when commercial flights go amok.
Inspiration comes from flowers - part of being the daughter of a florist - and the island of St. Croix. For over 30 years, my husband, Steve (a devoted, hard-working supporter of the arts community) and I have split our time between Florida and St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. Other things that turn me on artistically include domestic and world travels from Southeast Asia to the Mediterranean. Nearly every creation has a story reflected in the title. As the muses speak I may choose acrylic, graphite or watercolor media, occasionally combining multiple media.
