Age 7-15 4:45-5:45pm St. Gerard's Hall, Frederiksted Tuesdays: June 11, 18, 25 A creative method of communication by Mine workers in South Africa evolved into a lively social dance that looks a lot like “Stepping” !! We’ll sing, and make our own rhythms with hands, sneakers, and our bodies!!! What to wear: Sneakers, gym comfortable clothes to dance in Bring Water About the Instructor: Claudette “Adjoa” Young Hinds is certain she womb-danced to calm her Mom who was “blue vexed” as labor ended her trip to see the Rockettes!! With early study of “Ethnic” dance, and ballet, she feels blessed to have learned/taught/performed traditional dance of Regions in West and South Africa, South American, and across the Caribbean. She co-founded Harvard-Radcliffe African American Dance Theater in 1970, toured New England and South Eastern States with Art of Black Dance and Music, Inc., and performed at The American Dance Festival, NY’s Dance Africa, etc. Adjoa has conducted Master Classes (Atti Bermudez’s Theater Dance, and Sule’s Street Theater), was Guest instructor (Music in Motion, and Caribbean Dance),and taught/choreographed major productions for Sule and Karamu Afi. Adjoa allegedly retired after 40+ years, but here she is again!!!!
