Age 16 to Adult Tuesday: February 25 6:00pm-7:30pm Location: St. Gerard's Hall (St. Patrick School), Frederiksted Register. Intro to Bamboula is a fun and exciting dance class where we will explore Caribbean folkloric dance technique. This class is for beginners as we will learn foundational movements of this dance style. We will also learn about the cultural context of the dance and music, it’s history, geography and accompanying Cariso songs and chants. Let’s dance! Males are welcome to join! Live drumming provided by Dembaya Arts Conservatory. What to Bring: Water. What to Wear: Females flowing long circle skirts or lappa cloth wrap Males gym shorts You will be barefoot while dancing Instructor: Shanarae Matthew born on the island of St. Croix, holds over 30 years of experience in the performing and cultural arts as a student, dance artist, dance teacher and choreographer. She is 1 of the 5 founding members of the Dembaya Arts Conservatory, which has actively provided quality education in traditional West African dance/music and Caribbean folkloric dance for the past 17 years.
