Age 7-15 After-School 4:45pm-5:45pm $10 Location: St Gerard's Hall next to St. Patrick's School This is CMCArts final dance class offering for 2024! Come out and celebrate with two incredible dance instructors with years of experience: Linda Lacy-Hodge & Claudette “Adjoa” Young Hinds. The participants will learn Boot Dance and Fanga! Boot Dance is a dynamic, percussive dance style rooted in South African mining culture, where dancers use rhythmic stomping and slapping of gumboots to create captivating beats and movements. Fanga, is a West African welcoming dance that blends traditional drumming and graceful, inviting gestures to express hospitality and joy. Bring: Water Wear: Comfortable clothes/gym clothes About the instructor: Claudette “Adjoa” Young Hinds is certain she womb-danced to calm her Mom who was “blue vexed” as labor ended her trip to see the Rockettes!! With early study of “Ethnic” dance, and ballet, she feels blessed to have learned/taught/performed traditional dance of Regions in West and South Africa, South American, and across the Caribbean. She co-founded Harvard-Radcliffe African American Dance Theater in 1970, toured New England and South Eastern States with Art of Black Dance and Music, Inc., and performed at The American Dance Festival, NY’s Dance Africa, etc. Adjoa has conducted Master Classes (Atti Bermudez’s Theater Dance, and Sule’s Street Theater), was Guest instructor (Music in Motion, and Caribbean Dance),and taught/choreographed major productions for Sule and Karamu Afi. Adjoa allegedly retired after 40+ years, but here she is again!!!! About the Instructor: Linda Lacy Hodge Mrs. Lacy Hodge is an original company member of the Ko-Thi Dance Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ko-Thi will be celebrating their 55th year in existence on May 5th of 2024. She danced and toured with Ko-Thi for over 15 years under the direction of Ferne Caulker, founder and director. Formerly a dance major at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee along with teaching African Dance from 1972 to present. Currently she heads up the Alumni Organization of Ko-Thi where she writes the Alumni Newsletter and performs whenever she is in Milwaukee. Mrs. Lacy Hodge was the Business Manager for Harold Hodge Heavy Equipment for 30 years along with being the owner of Hodge Farm Orange Grove as a farmer and raising poultry. In 2018 she was selected as Livestock Farmer of the Year with the Department of Agriculture.
