 Spoken Word & Video Contest Rules:


Participants:

  1. Eligibility: Open to students in Grades 9-12 attending public, private, or homeschool on St. Croix.

  2. Students who did not participate in Rob Gibsun's CMCArts Artist-in-Residence poetry workshops can still submit entries.

  3. Collaboration: Two students may collaborate, and prize money can be divided between them. Both students' names must be included in the submission.

 

Topic:

  1. Theme: The topic is open to interpretation, allowing for creativity. Share your unique teen perspective.

  2. Originality: Entries must be original pieces created by the participants.

  3. Content Guidelines: Submissions must not contain profanity, graphic sexual content, or positive references to drugs or gun violence.

 

Video:

  1. Presentation Options: Participants can present their spoken word piece directly in front of the camera or create a video montage with their voice overlapping.

  2. Duration: The spoken word piece must not exceed 60 seconds. An additional 15 seconds are allocated for stating the participant's first name, school, and grade. If collaborating, both students' names should be included.

  3. Recommended Apps: MyRecorder and InShot are suggested free apps for creating and editing videos.

 

Submission Deadline:

  1. All entries must be uploaded by April 30, 2024, midnight.

  2. Submission Process: Visit cmcarts.org, click on "Get Involved" on the gray banner, then navigate to Group List. Click on CMCArts Teens and click "Join."  You will then click create post.  Click + sign on the left side. Select File.  Media Picker. Select your video file. Wait to Upload file. Then click Post to complete the upload.

 

Prizes:

  1. Judging: Entries will be judged based on a rubric, with the top 4 videos selected for further promotion.

  2. Promotion: The top 4 videos will be shared on the CMCArts Facebook Page from May 3 to May 7, 2024.

  3. Prize Allocation: Winners will be determined by the number of likes on Facebook. Prize amounts are as follows:

  • 1st Place: $400

  • 2nd Place: $250

  • 3rd Place: $100

  • 4th Place: $50

 

Additional Information:

  1. National Poetry Month: This contest coincides with National Poetry Month in April, celebrating the art of poetry.

  2. Artist-in-Residence: Rob Gibsun, a renowned spoken word artist, is the Artist-in-Residence for CMCArts in April, providing workshops and guidance to students.

  3. Support: Rob Gibsun's residency and the contest are supported through the CFVI Popular Community Fund Grant.

These rules aim to provide a platform for St. Croix high school students to express themselves creatively while adhering to guidelines for appropriate content and ensuring fair competition and recognition.
