Participants are encouraged to bring in their own soil from their yard/ neighborhood. All soil must be dropped off by Friday to be prepared. This guided tour of the exhibition will be complemented by a hands-on activity inviting participants to explore the meaning of soil beyond its physical properties. Through a reflective and interactive exercise, attendees will engage with the concept of soil identity, considering its ecological, cultural, and personal dimensions. The activity aims to foster a deeper connection with soil as a living entity and as a carrier of memory, place, and belonging. The Exhibition: Our Soil, Beyond Materiality This isn't a typical art show. Our Soil, Beyond Materiality merges scientific research with creative expression to reveal how soil health connects to human health, community resilience, and Caribbean identity. Participants will have a guided tour of the newly opened exhibition with Puerto Rico's Arte-Suelo-Ser. Inspired by the themes explored in the current exhibition, participants will investigate the remarkable diversity of soils and discover how characteristics such as color, texture, and structure help scientists classify them. Then the youth participants along with guardians will do a hands-on experiment called chromatography – the process or technique used to separate colors and pigment from the soil connecting scientific inquiry with creative expression to help deepen their appreciation for the vital role soils play in our ecosystems. Instructors: Yomaries González-Bermúdez: Co-Director of the Caribbean Soil Museum Alana Toro: Farmer, Filmmaker, & Educator, One of the creators of VI as in VICTORY Film
